St. Benedict in his Rule states that we are truly monks if we live by the labour of our own hands (RB 48:8-9). Almost all of our basic daily needs are met by members of our community. We farm: planting, cultivating and harvesting both our food crops and all necessary staple crops in our gardens. All by hand but most rewarding because the work is carried out as a community.
According to St. Benedict, African Benedictine Sisters provide their services through education, healthcare, chickens, pigs, cows, bookshop, host banking, orphans, mass vestments sewing, that we sell to local villages. However, if we were to pray all day without any work, how would the sisters be able to provide for their daily essential needs?
Creating the Future!
We provide quality education to prepare our youth to be valuable members of our country and Church. A good number of our Sisters are engaged in various levels of education. We are working in education through schools that owned by congregation such as Buyegi Pre&Primary School. We also have a hostel for learners in this school especially the kindergarten as well as primary school.
It all starts with little ones, at least 3 years and above. This includes socialization training as well as the 3 R’s.
Most of our daily needs are fruits of our labour. For example we grow and harvest all the maize, rice, beans, potatoes, cassava, which needed as our staple for the entire year.
